Ballinglen: USA/Ireland offers this unique opportunity to work at the prestigious Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Co Mayo, Ireland for a group of six to ten artists to spend nine days in rural Ireland painting with artist Rose de Groot.
Accommodation, meals, use of The Ballinglen Facilities, support of staff, use of a large shared workshop studio, art library of international painters throughout history, Archive Collection of over 600 works by International artists who have come on residency to Ballinglen.
The workshop is intended for those with a keen interest in painting in varying weather and light conditions; where the space becomes the subject in itself and where working with big gestural strokes, rendering the land and sea as continuous objects, abolishing edges and delivering fields of modulated color with all the freshness and power of a work done in a few hours from nature.
Group exercises and individual instruction will be given with plenty of time to discuss each other’s work. There will be time to work independently with plein air excursions, and/or working from (views) inside the studio on rainy or windy days.
The cost is $1,650. This includes tuition for 7 days, shared cottage with private bedroom for 8 nights, lunch/dinner/dessert/tea/coffee, collection/delivery to the bus/train stations in Ballina, full use of the Ballinglen library and facilities 24/7. Participants arrive on the 16th and depart on the 24th of April (the workshop is for seven days with arrival and departure day making it nine days in total). Materials:
Canvas cut to various sizes (or paint boards/canvas paper), oil paint, brushes, palette knives, rubber wedges/spatulas, sketching and note paper, pencils, ruler, warm clothing, visor/cap/hat for cutting glare, etc. Turpentine and medium will be provided at an extra $20 materials cost. Listed items can be brought on the plane in checked luggage. Art supplies can also be ordered and delivered to Ballinglen from a supplier in Dublin

Rose de Groot was born in the Netherlands and spent most of her life in the United States. She returned to her father’s native city of Rotterdam 13 years ago. Her fine art studies include painting and drawing at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design and masterclasses with international artists in the US and in Italy. She was awarded a fellowship at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Mayo, Ireland in 2014. She has also worked as a PR specialist in the worlds of international fashion, fine arts and architecture.

Workshop with Rose de Groot, 16th - 24th April 2018 Class from 17th - 23rd April 2017 TOTAL $1,650 Registration begins on 1st July 2017, booking forms must be received by Thursday, February 1st 2018. First come, first serve basis.
A $500 booking fee applies & is non refundable payable by cheque or credit card to Ballinglen: USA/Ireland. We will email you a receipt once we receive a payment or booking. Payments are non-refundable 2 months prior to the class.
