"Move the wrong stone, the ocean pours in". Dermot Healy
"A Personal Landscape" will immerse you in the beauty and mystery of Ireland through abstract painting. This workshop is for experienced artists who are seeking to deepen their painting practice both inwardly in terms of inner consciousness and expression and outwardly in the formal qualities of the work itself. There will be daily exercises and challenges to loosen up and expand approaches towards your personal vision, drawing from the local landscape and Irish poetry as inspiration.
You will have full access to a well-lit studio with individual workspaces, a library loaded with inspirational art books, and time to develop prolonged paintings from quick studies. Emphasis in this workshop will be on the use of watermedia, to include watercolor, acrylic, gouache, casein, ink and mixed media drawing materials. We will take a day to tour local historic sites along the wildly stunning coastline. I will give a powerpoint lecture sharing compositions, color and approaches of local and international artists. You will have daily entrance to the Ballinglen Museum of Art next door to the studio to see the current exhibition.
This Workshop takes place from the 12th - 20th September 2023. The cost is $2,000 which includes tuition, shared cottage with private bedroom for 8 nights, lunch/dinner/dessert/tea/coffee, collection/dropoff to the bus/train stations in Ballina, full use of the Dolan/Maxwell Library and facilities 24/7. Participants arrive on the 12th and depart on the 20th September (The workshop is for seven days with arrival and departure day making it nine days). Partners are welcome at an additional fee of $60 per day accommodation, lunch and dinner provided. Payment is made to Ballinglen: USA/Ireland using the payment button on the website www.ballinglenworkshops.com. The "Personal Landscape", "Taking Chances", and "Expanded Approaches towards Printmaking" workshops are designed to compliment and interrelate to each other utilizing the influences of Irish poetry as well as natural surroundings for inspiration. A discount is offered for two or more contiguous classes.
